Originally founded in 1839 as New York Landing, Colonial Jonathan D. Stevenson (of New York) bought the land grant and laid out a town he referred to as the New York of the Pacific. The city was first renamed to Black Diamond and then officially Pittsburg in 1911 to honor its fellow steel and coal mining city of the east coast Pittsbugh, Pennsylvania.
Today Pittsburg is a jewel along the delta in Contra Costa with a redeveloped downtown core boasting fine dining, nightlife, live music, family fun, shopping and nearby golf and marina activities.
With easy access to BART and the Delta-DeAnza bicycle trail along Highway 4, it’s conveniently located by car, boat or public transportation.
